Essay Tutorials 03.03.2011

Tomorrow's tutorials will be in room EB1.07 in the morning, plus I will be in Oscars in the afternoon for some extra sessions.

This is my provisonal list, it is based upon people who presented early in the process as a means to catch up.

If you are on this list and can't make it, let me know. If you want to be added into the 'free' slot, please 'reply all' to the circulated e-mail with your name inserted.

If your name is not on this list, it probably means you presented last week. You will be a priority to see in next week's list if you do not fill one of the free slots below.

I note that several of you did not attend or present your essays in the last weeks of essay crits. Please get in touch as a matter of urgency with an update on where you are in your research. We wasted some time in the past few weeks due to absences, so I have no option but to organise these tutorials based upon attendance. I cannot guarantee quality one-to-one tutoring if students do not attend when required.

Generally, all of you are welcome to e-mail me at any time with research queries of any kind. Please allow a day or so for me to reply!

27.01.2011: Essay Workshop

This Thursday (27th Jan) we will reconvene at UEL for an essay seminar. It is vital that you bring first proposals for this essay to the session- be prepared to discuss your ideas and bring any visual or text aids that will help the discussion. Vague verbal descriptions will not do.

I am encouraging everyone to develop essay enquiries based in some way on the 'City of Paper' seminar programme.

Our room has changed: 11am, Room WB2.07 (West Building)

Tree of Codes (Works on Paper #3)

Toc

Tree of Codes, Jonathan Safran Foer, 2010.

A new work of fiction is produced by physically removing words from an old work of fiction. See a review at the Guardian here.

#3 in a series of posts about things which use apparently banal text documents in beautiful, unexpected or subversive ways.

20.01.2011: Walking the Embankment

Hello all, We will meet at 10:30 tomorrow morning, at Temple underground station. It is here, we will meet at the main entrance.

We will not be finishing at Temple, which might influence your choice of ticket for the day.

We'll be finished, as usual, by lunchtime. If you have ideas for your essay topic, please bring them with you, as if the weather is good enough I propose a quick roundtable chat at the end of the walk about your essays.

Remember this is a mandatory session and, though a walk, is still of primary importance in terms of developing the ideas of the course.
